Former Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz signed a Minor League deal with the Kansas City Royals on March 19th. The Royals will look for Buchholz to contribute in the bullpen or be the #5 starter for the club in early May.
Interesting fact: Buchholz shares a remarkable resemblance to Theon Greyjoy from Game of Thrones, as well as many of the same beta qualities.
Theon Greyjoy is the most tragic character on Game of Thrones. The once strong and confident young man was turned into a dickless beta male who spends most episodes sucking his thumb in the corner of a dog crate. With any given opportunity to be heroic or alpha, Greyjoy would always disappoint.
Similarly, Buchholz is one of the most tragic players in baseball. He once showed signs of becoming a premiere pitcher in baseball before hurting himself in 2013. He was 12-1 and possibly on his way to winning a potential Cy Young Award. However, since then Buchholz has never been able to get back into dominant form. He's thrown over 140 innings in a season just once over the last 5 years. Whenever Clay was handed the ball and given opportunities to be alpha, he would always disappoint.
Although these two men are weak and beta, it's not safe to say yet that they are both complete disappointments. In season 7 of Game of Thrones, Greyjoy shows signs that he may start to fight back. Let's see if Buchholz has any fight left in him this upcoming season!
