A Scott Boras client is on the move, as the Padres are expected sign Eric Hosmer. With a 5 million dollar signing bonus, and 20 million per season the first 5 years, and 13 million per season the final 3 years of the contract, Eric Hosmer's 144 million dollar contract marks the largest in franchise history for the Padres.
Hosmer, a career .284 hitter is coming off a career year in which he hit .318 with 25 home runs and 94 rbis. It is a nice deal for Hosmer, who in my opinion is a solid fantasy option at first, however I don't expect him to finish among the top 5 at 1b in fantasy like he did last year. He does certain things well, and instantly makes the Padres better, as they can flex Wil Myers back to a corner OF position, while adding more depth to the lineup. Playing in San Diego I would project a decline in power, hitting closer to 20-23 home runs, which to me just isn't what I personally want out of such a lucrative fantasy position.
Never the less, it is a great deal for Hosmer, and gives the Padres a solid bat in the middle of their lineup.
