Listen I'm like intimidated just thinking about this blog, as the thoughts pour from my brain to my finger tips as I jam this article together in between a solid stretch of Fortnite games and bowls of cereal at 2pm.
I am excited and nervous at the same time, because I think I stumbled upon the greatest kept secret in college sports, and that's the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
I recently caught some good steam when I had the chance to blog about Austin Kuchinski (the six home runs in a day monster), and then talked to him in person. Talking to him, one he's an outstanding kid, but two....I felt myself diving into a subculture that I had no clue existed in NAIA baseball.
I am a fucking novice and I'll admit it when it comes to the NAIA, but what I do know, is that it's literally the wild wild west of collegiate sports, and in my early stages of research, produced both Scottie Pippen and the Worm, Dennis Rodman.
Literally according to their official site and description when asked to compare to the NCAA, they state that the “NCAA has rules for rules. There are rules for each division and each sport for each high school year that you are being recruited. It can be exhausting. The NAIA of course has rules, but they are not as intricate and also allow for a more personalized process.”
So basically they are nicely saying, they have rules but don't really have rules and that is the definition of absolute savagery at its finest. Why the fuck did I fuck around in the NCAA, who constantly tried to academically fry me every semester, when I could have been Doc Holliday in Tombstone? Yah so what I liked to party and smash soft toss instead of going to class, fucking sue me my parents were cutting fat checks so I was only disappointing them for the millionth time, and it's bullshit that the NCAA was out for my ass as well.
I want more information, I want to breathe NAIA culture. I want to learn and indulge in all my wildest college baseball fantasies. Question one I have is, does my NCAA eligibility count towards the NAIA? Can I come back on the GI Bill like an absolute savage, and play four more years of baseball?
