Carlos Gomez slugged a ball to dead center field nearly missing a homerun off Pirate pitcher Gerrit Cole. Immediately after contact, Gomez flipped his bat and started peacocking to first base thinking the ball was going over the fence. Center fielder, Andrew McCutchen leaped and tried to get a glove on the missile, but could not make the catch and the ball bounced off the top of the wall.
Gomez realizing the ball didn't leave the park, started sprinting around the bases and slid head first into third base. Josh Harrison (third basemen) fielded the throw from the outfield and handed the ball back toGerrit Cole who was backing up the play. Before walking back to the mound, Cole had a verbal exchange with Gomez which caused the benches to clear.
Carlos Gomez is one of the biggest beta in baseball. If you're going to bat flip and strut down the baseline, you better know the ball is leaving park. There should be a rule that if you've never hit 25+ mamos in your career, you can't pimp home runs and act alpha. Gerrit Cole was in the right for calling him out after showboating a triple.
Gomez is also no stanger into causing bench clearing brawls. He's been personally responsible for 5 bench clearing brawls. His attitude maybe the reason why he's played on 7 different team and has a career batting average of .256. He was once deemed a top prospect in baseball, but now is just another punk who is underachieving. Beta ball player.
