It was the venue Thrillride wanted. It was the atmosphere he wanted. It was the stage that he always dreamed about, hosted by one of the greatest platforms in the game, Barstool Sports. For a man that was born to entertain, and had labored through the past decade fine tuning his craft every day of his life, it was the perfect storm.
When the opportunity was presented to Thrillride to fight, despite all the above mentioned facts, it wasn't an easy decision by any means. Thrillride is often seen as his persona; the cocky, swag-filled Alpha male unscathed by anything. After this fight, Thrilly gained the love of all as he exposed his true colors; a hardworking everyday guy, with a relentless work ethic and a love for his family above all else.
Being an Absolute Savage is more than just repping 400 lbs on the bench and dead lifting 6 plates per side. It's more than being the baddest mother fucker in your school or the best athlete that has ever gone through your hometown. It's definitely more than running through the hottest chicks around, though that's definitely awesome.
Thrillride showed us that last night, being an Absolute Savage is about the grind. It's more about the process and less about the results. Being an Absolute Savage, is accepting a challenge in your life, and doing everything you can do to prepare for it. It's waking up at 4am before work to get your first workout of the day in, even though you've been up all night with a newborn. It's about going back to the gym after the work day is over for round 2. It's about stepping out of your comfort zone, and pouring everything you've got into the process. Being an Absolute Savage is arriving at the moment of truth and knowing you did everything you can to prepare for the moment.
You don't always win in life. Everyone gets punched in the face. What makes someone an Absolute Savage, is the ability to get off the floor after life has rocked you. The ability to be humble in victory and defeat. The burning desire to harness the energy of defeat, and transforming it into victory.
Thrillride showed the world last night what it means to be an Absolute Savage. I told him not to take the fight, because I didn't see the benefit for a 35 year old Dad. Thrillride proved me wrong, and did the impossible. He stood toe to toe with a 200lb brick shit house, and showed everyone watching, that anything is possible when you're an Absolute Savage. My hats off to Thrilly, and I have the feeling he's just getting started....
